Naugatuck Valley Community College’s first capital campaign!
Why a capital campaign? Doesn’t the state pay for everything?
Most people are surprised to learn that Connecticut Community colleges are state-supported -- for only 50% of their basic costs. They are not like state agencies which receive all their funds from the government. Tuition, grants, and private funds must be obtained for basic instruction and services.
The state monies NVCC received to build the new Technology Building are 100% allocated for direct constructions costs. To have a functional building, donations are essential. Funds are direly needed for equipment, furnishings and fixtures. Our shortfall is approximately $3 million. Other CT community colleges in similar circumstances also had to conduct capital campaigns -- and did so successfully.
Can I Donate Now?
By all means, contact us now if you’d like to be among the first! Before campaigns go public, lead gifts are typically acquired. Note that there will be many opportunities to leave a legacy or advertise your business. Depending on the gift level, the building, laboratories, classrooms, equipment and/or furnishings can bear your name forever!
What is the money for?
The new tech center will need funds for:
- Laboratory and classroom computers, desks and chairs
-
Additional or updated instructional equipment for program labs:
-
Horticulture, Hospitality, and Viticulture
-
Specialized up-to-date engineering technology instructional equipment for programs in:
-
CAAD, Electrical, Advanced Manufacturing, Automotive
-
“Smart Classrooms” – instantly connects laptop, projector, and large screen to content on internet, textbooks, and handwritten notes
-
Wiring for computer networking
Who supports NVCC now and why?
Faculty fund scholarships and academic enrichment to ensure students are well-prepared for good careers
The NVCC Foundation and college staff have worked together for many years to raise monies in support of important NVCC goals. Our capital campaign will reach further into the groups that traditionally support NVCC and other community colleges.
NVCC Foundation Board members and community leaders perform in our annual Mystery Theater fund-raiser
- Businesses are the largest donors to community colleges nationwide. Why? Because CC’s are the major local resource for high quality, affordable and convenient training and education of the current and future workforce. It’s both a great investment and an advertising opportunity.
- Faculty, staff and retirees – because they believe in the organization!
- Alumni – to show their appreciation and ensure the value of their degree
- Former and current adult students pursuing lifelong education and enrichment
- Audiences and participants in NVCC’s performing arts programs and productions
- Philanthropists – who recognize that NVCC benefits everyone in their community, and who believe in the community college mission
- Private Foundations – who understand how NVCC furthers the Foundation’s goals
- Professional, Industry, and Community Organizations & Associations
- Parents of children in NVCC’s child and youth programs – because we offer unique affordable experiences
- The community at-large – that’s YOU! Chances are our 10,000 plus students of all ages and backgrounds are your family members, friends, neighbors, relatives, colleagues, employees, customers, and/or suppliers. NVCC is your community treasure!
