ANNOUNCEMENT OF EXTENDED ANTICIPATED POSITION OPENING

POSITION:
English as a Second Language (ESL) Program Director, (Community College Professional 19)
12 Month Tenure Track Position

ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE:
Spring Semester 2010

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in TESOL/ESL and a minimum of two (2) years of related professional ESL experience required, which includes at least one year of supervisory experience, preferably in a community college setting. Demonstrated experience in ESL pedagogy and theory, curriculum development, ESL teaching and program management preferred. NVCC is seeking an innovative academic leader who possesses excellent communication and interpersonal relations skills, encourages instruction that incorporates 21st century skills and is capable of administrative computer applications. A commitment and demonstrated understanding of the mission of the community college and its diverse commuter student population is essential.

They must also provide appropriate references. Exceptions to the degree requirements may be made for compelling reasons.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Division Director of Arts and Humanities, the ESL Director will provide academic and administrative leadership on the main campus for NVCC’s ESL program; work with a wide range of learners; develop strategic plans to meet program goals; select, supervise and evaluate faculty and staff; develop and administer the ESL budget; provide leadership in curriculum development and instructional strategies; actively maintain liaison with community and program advisory committees; initiate and coordinate new innovative courses; implement creative approaches to instructional technologies; and provide college-wide leadership in related academic activities. In addition, the director will manage all ESL-related academic matters at NVCC’s Danbury, CT site.

MINIMUM SALARY:
$60,789, approximate annual, plus excellent medical insurance, retirement and related fringe benefits.
