Motorcycle Rider Safety Courses Available at NVCC

Waterbury, Conn. - (Waterbury, CT) – Motorcycle safety courses for novice, intermediate and experienced riders are currently being offered at Naugatuck Valley Community College.

The Connecticut Rider Education Program is a statewide program directed by the Department of Transportation. Its goal is to provide quality motorcycle training for all rider experience levels.

The basic rider course is suited for individuals who have little or no riding experience. A training motorcycle and helmet will be provided, if needed. The fee is $200. Participants completing the basic course may qualify for the state license and submit their course completion card to the Department of Motor Vehicles in lieu of a skills test.

The intermediate rider course works with individuals who have some riding experience but would like to improve braking, turning, evasive maneuvers and street strategies. The fee is $115. Participants must have a permit, current motorcycle registration and proof of insurance.

The experienced rider course is designed to advance rider skills in all areas. Riders must have a current motorcycle license and use their own bike for the course. The fee is $85 and an additional $20 for a passenger.

The program has immediate openings and runs weekly through October. Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis.
