Artist brings “ColorSoundTheory” to Naugatuck Valley Community College on Tuesday, February 17
"ColorSoundTheory" by Ellen Hackl Fagan
Waterbury, Conn. - Naugatuck Valley Community College will host artist Ellen Hackl Fagan on Thursday, February 17 at 11:30 a.m. in the Ruth Ann Leever Atrium. Fagan will give a gallery talk on her series of paintings “ColorSoundTheory,” which will remain an exhibit at the College until April 18.
“Each of the 26 paintings here represents a letter in a color/sound alphabet” said Fagan. “Motivated by the beauty of color, I’m tuned in to its communicative nature. Exploring the sonic equivalent of colors in my paintings has prompted me to create an interactive game called The Alphabet Game. Viewers are asked to place the ABC Song in the front of their minds while selecting the color that best represents each note in this familiar melody. I document and compile the results, and have begun to see some consistencies emerge. The paintings here are derived from the results of thirty-one viewers’ color/sound alphabets.”
The gallery talk is free and open to the public. It will be followed by an informal reception and refreshments. For directions visit nvcc.commnet.edu. For more information, call (203) 575-8176.
