| NVCC Students Reach Out to Victims of Hurricane Ike

Students in the Naugatuck Valley Community College game room pose with a $598 check to be donated to the victims of Hurricane Ike.
Waterbury, Conn. – The Student Government Association at Naugatuck Valley Community College has voted to donate all revenues earned in the College’s Game Room throughout the month of October to aid the victims of Hurricane Ike. A check for $598.00 was mailed to the Houston Food Bank on Monday, December 1, 2008.
“Financial gifts to the Houston Food Bank provide the greatest return,” said Rita Ostrander of the student activities office. “They use volunteer power and partnerships with the food industry to stretch every dollar that is donated. One dollar provides a full day of meals for children, adults or seniors.”
Every month the students choose a cause to donate the game room revenues to. The revenues for November and December will be donated to St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen in Waterbury.
