Naugatuck Valley Community College Welcomes Interim Development Chief

Waterbury, Conn. – Waldemar “Wally” S. Kostrzewa recently accepted an appointment to serve as interim director of development for Naugatuck Valley Community College by Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., the College’s president.

Kostrzewa most recently served as director of development for the Foundation and Advisory Board at Tunxis Community College in Farmington, where he led the fundraising, events and administrative efforts as well as a first-ever annual fund campaign. Prior to Tunxis, Kostrzewa was acting dean of development at Manchester Community College from 2006 to 2007 and helped guide that college’s fundraising efforts with An Evening of Fine Wines that netted $103,000 in contributions.

“It is the College’s good fortune to have Wally join our team at this crucial time in our history,” said De Filippis. “We are in the midst of putting into practice a new operational plan that will continue to grow our enrollment, better serve our students and collaborate with the 22 communities we serve in our region. With his tremendous depth of experience in development and fundraising, Wally will be a much-needed asset to help us implement these far-reaching and ambitious plans. We welcome him with open arms.”

"I am pleased to join the NVCC family to further engage the region in connecting to and supporting the college's important mission,” said Kostrzewa, who has held several positions within the Connecticut Community College system including special assistant to the chancellor, director of government relations, system liaison to community college development directors, and director of community services/continuing education. He is a member of the board of directors of the Connecticut Vituosi Chamber Orchestra, and advisory board chairman for the CCSU Polish and Polish-American Studies program.

Kostrzewa earned a B.S. and an M.A. in English from Central Connecticut State University.
