December Arts Events for Naugatuck Valley Community College
Waterbury, Conn. – The calendar of November arts events for Naugatuck Valley Community College is as follows:
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5
Naugatuck Valley Community College Gospel Choir is performing at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 5 at the North Congregational Church, 11 Main Street North in Woodbury. For more information contact James Hurdle at (203) 753-9899.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5
The Wind Ensemble of Western Connecticut at Naugatuck Valley Community College will play a concert on Friday, December 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre of the College’s Fine Arts Center, 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.
The concert is entitled Music Out on the Town, and features a variety of well-known compositions including music from Broadway’s South Pacific and Phantom of the Opera, selections from Carmen, works by Benny Goodman and Ray Charles and other holiday classics.
Admission is by donation, in any amount, to benefit the band. The performance is open to the public and is suitable for all ages. For more information call (203) 575-8039.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 11
Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Art program will display its end of semester student exhibit until December 11 in the Ruth Ann Leever Atrium Gallery of the College’s Fine Arts Center, 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.
The gallery is open to the public and is accessible from 9-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 9-3:00 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information call (203) 575-8040.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13
The Naugatuck Valley Community College Jazz Ensemble and the College Choir will present Big Time Christmas at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, in the Mainstage Theatre of the College’s Fine Arts Center, 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.
Both ensembles are well known throughout the region for outstanding performances that feature both students and community members. Joseph Jacovino will conduct the Jazz Ensemble in several exciting charts, including one Broadway medley featuring the College Choir. Student conductors and soloists will be featured when the Choir offers holiday carols, assisted by Conductor Richard Gard.
Admission is by donation and any amount is welcome. Benefits will go to the Jazz Ensemble and College Choir. For more information contact the NVCC music office at (203) 575-8049
MONDAY, DECEMBER 15
The Naugatuck Valley Community College Dance Ensemble will perform an open rehearsal at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, in the Mainstage Theatre of the College’s Fine Arts Center, 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.
Students from the Repertory/Ensemble course will be performing great twentieth century American Dance Legacy works by Anna Sokolow and Charles Weidman as well as more contemporary works from dance major Nate Rodriquez and guest artist, James Robey, artistic director of the Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance and adjunct faculty at Hartt School—Dance Division. Robey will also present an original work that satirizes society.
