| Naugatuck Valley Community College Again Offering Fifteen Full Scholarships toward Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology
Program includes paid internships at Connecticut Light & Power, thanks to Northeast Utilities Foundation funding
Waterbury, Conn. – Fifteen full scholarships to pursue an associate's degree in Electronic Engineering Technology that include the guarantee of a paid internship at Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) are available beginning with the 2009-10 academic year at Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) in Waterbury.
Scholarship recipients will receive full tuition from the Northeast Utilities Foundation for up to two years of undergraduate study to cover costs and fees at NVCC. A book allowance will also be provided.
"Pursuing a college degree can be very costly, so this is a tremendous opportunity that combines NVCC's outstanding curriculum with the scholarships and a hands-on opportunity through the internships," said Raymond P. Necci, president and chief operating officer of CL&P and Yankee Gas. "What Connecticut will get will be a group of technically qualified people who hopefully want to stay here and work here, preferably for CL&P."
Students completing the two-year, 67 or 68 credit hours program will have the necessary math and technical skills, along with a clear understanding of what the utility industry offers. They will be considered for employment at CL&P based on academic achievement, internship success and overall performance. They also will have the option of transferring to a four year program.
Those interested in this scholarship program should contact B.J. Plouffe, Engineering Technology Secretary, at (203) 575-8090 or bplouffe@nvcc.commnet.edu.
