| Science and Faith Panel Discussion at Naugatuck Valley Community College
Waterbury, Conn. – Academics from Naugatuck Valley Community College, Southern Connecticut State University and the University of Connecticut will gather to discuss “Science and Faith: An Interdisciplinary Matter” on Wednesday, October 29.
The official panel discussion will take place from 11:30-12:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theater of Naugatuck Valley Community College with refreshments and an informal conversation hour with the panel members to follow.
“We are searching for better and more sensitive ways to reach students about evolution,” said Leonard Yannielli, professor of biological sciences at NVCC and the event’s coordinator. “Intelligent Design creationism introduces religion into science classrooms, which is outside of science’s domain and methodology.”
The panel members come from a variety of cultural and geographical locations, including India and Brazil. Panel members include:
- Peter Benzi, instructor of physics
- Rachel Sackett, instructor of biology
- Leonard Yannielli, professor of biological sciences
- Dr. Lawrence Altman, professor of biology
- Dr. Wade Tarzia, professor of English
- Dr. Margaret Das, professor of microbiology
- Cynthia Zocca, graduate student in linguistics
