| Naugatuck Valley Community College recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month with "The Stranger You Know"
Waterbury, Conn. – In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Human Services Club at Naugatuck Valley Community College is partnering with the Children’s Trust Fund and Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury to bring “The Stranger You Know… A Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Program” from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, in the College’s Playbox Theatre.
The community presentation will be led by former East Hartford police commander Robert Kenary. Kenary is the recipient of the Martin A. Burnham Award for child abuse prevention and two official citations from the Connecticut General Assembly for child sexual abuse prevention. He spent 33 years with the East Hartford Police Department and was assigned to the FBI for two years to investigate sexual offenses against children.
His presentation reveals how parents and adults can recognize potential child predators and what parents can teach children to help prevent them from becoming victims of sexual abuse.
“Nothing is more important than protecting our children, but no one can do it alone,” said William T. Brown, director of behavioral health and social sciences. “We all need to learn how to recognize when our children are being hurt or terrorized, and what we can do make sure they grow up healthy, happy, and free from abuse.”
The event is free to the community and there is no pre-registration. For more information call (203)596-8616 or email kleblanc@nvcc.commnet.edu. For directions visit nvcc.commnet.edu/welcome. |
