| NVCC Lands New Instructor in Aviation Science
Waterbury, Conn. – Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Aviation Science Degree program is proud to announce the addition of Thomas J. Cahill to the aviation management faculty.
Cahill will be teaching Foundations of Aviation on Tuesdays from 5:30-8:30 p.m. starting September 2. He joins Stephen Ferguson, assistant airport manager at Westchester County Airport, who is teaching Airport Management I on Thursdays from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Cahill is currently the front line manager at Bradley International Airport, where he is responsible for overseeing the training of air traffic controllers. He has been employed by the Federal Aviation Administration for the last 26 years and has also worked as an air traffic controller, traffic management coordinator, operational supervisor and air traffic manager.
“We’re very excited to add Tom to our faculty,” said Dr. Bonnie Simon, division director of mathematics and science. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the classroom that will strongly benefit our students."
The Aviation Science program's flight curriculum currently partners with Connecticut Flight Academy and Premier Flight Center in Hartford as well as Meriden Aviation Services in Meriden and Image Aviation Services in Oxford to offer onsite flying experience and training to students. The program has recently become affiliated with Northeast Helicopters in Ellington to offer a concentration in rotorcraft flight.
“It’s an exciting time to come on board,” said Cahill. “I encourage anyone with an interest in learning about aviation to come and explore the program. It’s an exciting field that offers a variety of opportunities.”
