WATERBURY, Conn. (Jan. 23, 2008) – The nation is facing a growing public health crisis because of a shortage of health care workers.  Through the expansion of their Continuing Education for Health Care Careers at the main campus and the Danbury Training Center, NVCC hopes to help meet the increasing demand for health care professionals.

Prospective students who do not wish to pursue an Associate Degree program are encouraged to consider the non-credit courses and certifications available in Danbury and Waterbury to advance quickly into the health care field.  Most non-credit programs can be completed in just a few months.

This spring both campuses will offer Nurse Aid Certification (CNA) as well as courses in Customer Service & Communication, Patient Confidentiality, and Medical Terminology for the Patient Care Technician (PCT) certificate.  Both professions are predicted to see an 18% increase in job opportunities between 2006 – 2016, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor and Statistics.  A CNA can expect to earn $20,000 – $37,500 per year.*

Courses for the Medical Transcription Certificate and Medical Coding & Billing Specialist can be taken online.  Employment for medical assistants is projected to grow much faster than average, ranking them among the fastest growing occupations over the ten-year period.

The Waterbury campus will additionally offer a number of courses for continuing professionals who would like to enhance existing skills in their respective positions.

Anyone interested in learning more about NVCC Continuing Education for Health Care Careers is invited to attend a free information session on Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 7-9:00 p.m.  The Event will be held in Café West at the Waterbury campus.  To receive a full course catalog, visit www.nvcc.commnet.edu or call the Office of Non-credit registration at (203) 575-8029.

Located off exit 18 on Interstate 84, NVCC serves 35 communities from Waterbury to Seymour to Southbury and Danbury to Litchfield.
