February events calendar for NVCC

WATERBURY (Jan. 21, 2008) – The following is a calendar of events for Naugatuck Valley Community College, which serves 35 communities across western Connecticut from Litchfield to Waterbury to Seymour to Southbury and Danbury:

TUESDAY, FEB. 5
NVCC is holding a free health care career education information session for anyone interested in pursuing or advancing a career in nursing, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, radiology, patient care, phlebotomy or as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) or medical coding & billing specialist.

The session will be held on Feb. 5 from 7-9:00 p.m. in Café West of our main campus, located at 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.  The snow date is scheduled for Feb. 6.  For a catalog or advance information visit our website, www.nvcc.commnet.edu, or call (203) 575-8029.

 

FRIDAY, FEB. 22
NVCC will host an all-inclusive debate on issues relating to the War in Iraq for anyone interested in learning about or discussing the various points of view.  The event will be held Feb. 22 from 12 – 3:30 p.m.

The guest debaters are Dr. James Jay Carafano, Assistant Director for the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for International Studies of Heritage Foundation in Washington D.C, and Dr. Michael Schwartz, Professor of Sociology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and author of numerous scholarly works on the war, including the book “War Without End: The Iraq Debacle in Context.”

“The Great Debate:  War in Iraq” is free and open to the public.  Middle Eastern refreshments will be served at 12 p.m. prior to the beginning of the debate in the Main Stage area of NVCC, 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.  For more information contact the Behavioral and Social Science division at (203) 596-2101.

 

FRIDAY, FEB. 29
NVCC is holding a half-day conference, “You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby???,” that will focus on the challenges and opportunities that women face in the 21st century.

The keynote speaker will be Faith Middleton, host of the nationally syndicated “Faith Middleton Show” and “The Food Schmooze” on National Public Radio.  Following the keynote address, there will be break-out sessions to discuss topics ranging from business to health to education to relationships and other social issues.

The conference will take place on Feb. 29 from 9 – 2:30 p.m. at NVCC, 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.  While it is free and open to the public, registration is required in order to accommodate space and refreshments.  The luncheon after the break-out sessions carries a cost of $10 that must be paid with registration.  For more information contact Karla Ekquist-Lechner of the Behavioral and Social Science division at kekquist-lechner@nvcc.commnet.edu or call (203) 596-2101.
