NVCC accepting applications for allied health programs

WATERBURY (Dec. 6, 2006) — Those interested in enrolling in the nursing, respiratory care or radiologic technology programs at Naugatuck Valley Community College for fall 2007 should begin collecting transcripts now in order to meet the programs’ Jan. 15 application deadline.

Graduates of NVCC’s nursing program are awarded associate of science degrees in nursing and are eligible to take the license examination to become registered nurses. Prerequisites for the program include intermediate algebra, chemistry with a lab and anatomy and physiology I and II with labs with a minimum grade of C within the last five years. Applicants must also complete the National League for Nursing Pre-admission Exam by the application deadline.

NVCC students who graduate with an associate degree in respiratory care become respiratory therapists who evaluate, treat, and manage patients with breathing disorders under the direction of a physician. Prerequisites for the program include biology and intermediate algebra with a minimum grade of C within the last five years.

Graduates from NVCC’s radiologic technology degree program become radiographers qualified to use X-rays to produce diagnostic images of the human body. Prerequisites for the program include the following courses within the past five years: two years of math, including intermediate algebra with a minimum grade of C, and two years of lab sciences, one of which must be biology with a lab.
