SET YOUR POP-UP BLOCKER TO ALLOW POP-UPS
Internet Explorer
- In the Tools menu on your browser toolbar, select
"Pop-up Blocker," and then "Pop-up Blocker
Settings"
- Type http://my.commnet.edu into the "Address of Web site to
Allow" box and then click Add
- Click the Close button to exit
Mozilla Firefox
- Open the Edit toolbar menu and choose
Preferences
- Under the Privacy & Security Preferences
category, click on the Pop-up Windows topic (if no
subcategories are visible double-click on the title "Privacy
& Security" to expand the list)
- Click the Allowed Sites button, type
http://my.commnet.edu into the text field, and then
click Add
- Click OK to save
DISABLING POP-UP BLOCKERS WITHIN BROWSERS
Internet Explorer (with XP Service Pack 2)
- In the Tools menu at the top of your browser
toolbar, select "Pop-up Blocker," and then "Pop-up
Blocker Settings"
- Type http://my.commnet.edu into the "Address of Web site to
allow" box, click Add
- Click the Close button to exit
NOTE: When Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) is
installed, the Internet Explorer Pop-up Blocker is automatically
turned on and set to the Medium setting, which means that it
will block most automatic pop-ups. Disable the Pop-up Blocker
using the steps above.
Pop-up Stopper - Mozilla Toolbar
- Open the Edit toolbar menu and choose
Preferences
- Under the Privacy & Security Preferences
category, click on the Pop-up Windows topic (if no
sub-categories are visible double-click on the title Privacy
& Security to expand the list)
- Click the Allowed Sites button, type
http://my.commnet.edu into the text field and
click Add
- Click OK to save
Firefox 1.5.x
- Click on the Tools menu, then on the Options
menu
- Click on the Content icon within the Options
window
- Uncheck the Block Pop-up Windows check box
- Click OK to close the Options menu
DISABLING POP-UP BLOCKERS OF SECURITY SYSTEMS:
Norton's Internet Security suite includes one of the more
common pop-up blockers. To find out if your machine is running
Norton look for the Norton icon in the system tray (the area to
the left of the clock in the lower right corner of your screen).
If you do have Norton installed and active, you will need
to TEMPORARILY disable it.
- Right click on the Norton icon (which should be
displayed in your system tray)
- Choose "Disable" from the drop-down menu
- Turn Norton back on when you are done with your class
session by repeating Step 1 above and choosing "Enable" from
the drop down menu
TO TEMPORARILY DISABLE OTHER SECURITY SOFTWARE, please
consult the Help menu on your browser toolbar for assistance or
go to that web site.
DISABLING POP-UP BLOCKERS OF SECOND-PARTY TOOLBARS
(GOOGLE, YAHOO, AOL, ETC.)
If any toolbars such as Google, Yahoo, AOL, etc. are used, we
recommend uninstalling them.
- Click on Start, Settings, and then
Control Panel
- Click on the Add or Remove Programs icon
- Within this window find the names of the toolbar(s) and
uninstall/remove
Restart your computer'
If you are unwilling to uninstall these programs,
please review the information below for instructions on how to
disable pop-up blockers for each.
Google Toolbar
The Google Toolbar blocks pop-ups by default. You can allow
pop-ups from selected sites, or disable the pop-up blocker
completely.
To add WebCT Vista to your list of permitted sites:
- Click on the pop-up blocker button while viewing your
MyWebCT homepage
- Add the page to selected sites
To completely disable the pop-up blocker:
- Click the Options button in the Google toolbar
- Clear the checkbox next to Pop-up Blocker
in the Accessories section
Yahoo Toolbar
If Yahoo's Pop-up blocker is blocking Vista, there are three
ways to override it:
- Add Vista to your allowed list by clicking the Pop-up
Blocker menu and selecting "Always Allow Pop-ups
from... Then select "Vista" from the "Sources
of Recently Blocked Pop-ups" list and click "Allow"
- Turn off Pop-up Blocker by clicking the Pop-up
Blocker menu and deselecting "Enable Pop-up Blocker.
The toolbar button changes to indicate that the blocker is
disabled
- Press and hold the Ctrl key while clicking a link
to override Pop-up Blocker and allow any pop-up
windows resulting from the click
AOL Toolbar
- Click Settings on the AOL toolbar
- Click Pop-ups under the Essentials tab
- In the Web Pop-ups tab of the Pop-up Control
Settings window select "Allow Web Pop-ups from these
sites" from the available options
- Type http://my.commnet.edu and click Add
- Click Save
Pop-Up Stopper
If you have Pop-Up Stopper, a stand-alone pop-up blocker
software, an icon will appear in the bottom right-hand corner of
your screen. If you move your mouse over it, it should show the
name of the software.
To Disable Pop-Up Stopper:
- Right click on the Pop-Up Stopper software icon
- Uncheck the box next to "Enable Pop-up
Blocking"
- Re-enable the software when you're done using WebCT
Vista
Pop-Up Stopper - Mozilla Toolbar
