The Public Safety Department welcomes you to Naugatuck Valley Community College.
The Public Safety Department is a law enforcement agency responsible for the enforcement
of Campus Rules and Regulations, Local, State and Federal Laws.
All NVCC Police Officers are trained at the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden,
Connecticut, and retain their powers of arrest from the Commissioner of Public Safety.
Services
The Public Safety Department is the first responder to all medical, fire and criminal
emergencies on campus.
In case of family emergencies (accidents, emergency messages, etc.) the Department will
make an effort to make the necessary notifications on campus.
For your convienence, the Public Safety Department has incorporated into their phone
system several assistance phones located at Kinney Hall 4th floor elevator, Ekstrom Hall
first and 5th floor elevators, Founders' Hall first floor elevator and in the Fine Arts
Building of Phase II.
The Department also reports on school closings and cancellations.

Parking
Possession of a parking permit entitles the holder to park only in designated areas for
faculty, staff and student.
- Student Parking Only- A-upper ramp, A-lower ramp, D-Lot, E-lot and F-lot.
- Faculty and Staff Areas- B-lower ramp, B-upper ramp, C-lot and Designated Faculty and Staff Areas.
- Students and staff may obtain Parking Decals from the Public Safety Department.
- Special Handicapped Permits - Persons wishing to obtain Special Permits must first contact Health Services, Room 518, Kinney Hall.
Theft
Theft is a serious crime to which all of us are vulnerable. Theft is one of the most
preventable of all crimes. Many of us, through our own carelessness make it easier for
thieves to carry out their mission.
Campus Safety Tips
- Avoid isolated areas.
- Park in well lighted areas.
- There is safety in numbers, go with some one while going to class or walking to your vehicle.
- Use the campus escort service.
- Report suspicious persons and activities to the Public Safety Department immediately.
- Check the back seat of your vehicle before entering.
- The Public Safety Department should be notified of any criminal incidents or behavior on campus.
- Notice and remember as much as possible about the incident and person involved so that an accurate description can be given to authorities.
- Lock your vehicle while attending class.

While you are in school:
- Do not leave valuables in classroom while unattended.
- Be observant of strangers.
- Lock your car doors while parked.
In your office:
- Never leave your office unlocked when you leave.
- Lock your purse and valuables in file cabinet or desk.
- Never lend your office keys to anyone.
